چکیده

Background Ultrasound-guided wire localization (USGWL), or ultrasound-guided needle localization, is a wellestablished technique in the management of breast pathology [1]. Its use in the management of impalpable head and neck lesions has been described more recently with benefits of accurate operative localization, reduced operating time and reduced tissue damage being cited [2–4]. Localization of impalpable lesions in a region of such complex anatomy is attractive, especially if lesions are tiny metastatic deposits. USGWL can be particularly useful in the postinstrumentation neck where there has been distortion of normal anatomy.

Image - guided percutaneous breast biopsies

Diagnosis of breast cancer at its earliest stage affords women the best prognosis. The role of the breast imager has evolved from cancer screening and detection to now include diagnosis and management with the widespread adoption of image-guided core biopsy. This article will briefly discuss the current imageguided biopsy techniques for the diagnosis of suspicious breast findings, specifically,...

Fusion of Freehand SPECT and Ultrasound to Perform Ultrasound-Guided Fine-Needle Aspiration Cytology of Sentinel Nodes in Head and Neck Cancer.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Criteria for ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration cytology (USgFNAC) for the detection of occult lymph node metastasis in patients with clinically negative head and neck cancer are based on the morphology of cervical lymph nodes. To improve the selection of lymph nodes for USgFNAC, we examined the feasibility of fused freehand single-photon emission tomography ultraso...

Feasibility of surgeon-performed ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy in the thyroid and lymph nodes.

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy (CNB) performed by a surgeon for mass lesions in the thyroid and lymph nodes. METHODS A single surgeon performed 30 office-based ultrasound-guided CNB procedures for mass lesions in the thyroid and lymph nodes that were previously biopsied by ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration cy...

Prospective study of ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration cytology and sentinel node biopsy in the staging of clinically negative T1 and T2 oral cancer.

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to compare sentinel node biopsy (SNB) and ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) for preoperative evaluation of the N0 neck in T1 to T2 oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). METHODS Fifty-one consecutive patients with T1 to T2 N0 oral cavity SCC were included in this study. Preoperative ultrasound was performed in all patients. U...

Efficacy of ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration performed by surgeons newly trained in thyroid ultrasound.

BACKGROUND There are a growing number of thyroid ultrasound courses to train endocrinologists, pathologists, and surgeons to perform ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (FNA). However, there are limited data to support the efficacy of ultrasound-guided FNA performed by nonradiologists. METHODS We compared the efficacy of ultrasound-guided FNA performed by surgeons newly trained in thyroi...
